A Special Summertime 'Thank You'

Dear Friend,

As the weather has been so good I thought this would be a good time to send you a summertime ‘Thank You’ for all your interest in my work and support over the last few weeks and months. As you know, I believe business is a two way thing – so to say ‘thank you’ and celebrate the good weather I wanted to give you some Hot summer tips for your music career.

I hope that you will be able to use the following for your continued music success. September time can be a good time of the year for musicians, because while things might quieten down, it also gives us a chance to step back. ‘Stepping Back’ and doing less, is paradoxically, a very important music skill. We’re all so caught up in the day-to-day practices and performances that our career presents to us so it’s very easy for months or even years to go by without addressing the ‘big picture’ of your music.

So in this email, I simply want to give you four questions to ask yourself as the summer comes to a close. I’ve used these myself and I’ve encouraged some of my clients to use them – they are very simple questions, yet their simplicity can produce some profound results. You could do this while you’re sitting in the sun, or jetting back from holiday – or if you’re really sad, during the boring bits on Big Brother.

Here are the questions:

1. What am I doing brilliantly in my music that I should be doing more of? While we often worry about how to grow and improve our music career, my experience is that you’re probably doing some great things already that you’re hardly aware of. What system do you have for attracting more performances or serving them well that works really well? What element of your music do your fans really love? What would happen if you did more of it?

2. What’s the one thing that my fans would love me to do for them that I’m not currently doing? I can virtually guarantee that there are hidden profits for you that exist in your music career that you are not yet offering people. Pick just one area where you could be doing something new for your fans that could help get you more money. Implement it and they’ll be happier and your bank balance will be bigger. It’s pure win-win. If you’re not sure what your fans want, spend some time asking them.

3. How am I limiting myself and my music career? As you may have gathered by now, it’s my strong belief that your thinking is at the heart of your success. You and I and everyone have ways of thinking that create success – and ways of thinking that limit us. One of the tricks is to identify ways of thinking that limit your potential, so that you can take conscious control of your thinking and change them.

You are capable of stunning success. If you’re not there yet, your mindset may have a great deal to do with it. Keep an eye out for ways of thinking that could be limiting you. Here’s a pointer. What you believe is possible or not possible for you and your music will define your future. In other words, your beliefs about possibility are as important as any success skill that I can offer you.

4. Where do you want your business to be this time next Summer? Next September, where do you want to be with your music career? What do you want to be doing? How many fans do you want to have on your mailing list? How many gigs do you want per month? How much profits do you want? How many CDs do you want to have sold?

Your subconscious mind needs clear measurable goals that it can work on while you’re busy doing day-to-day stuff. But you literally have to programme the goals in by getting very clear and specific on what you want. We owe it to ourselves to spend some time each year re-assessing where we’re going. The end of the summer is a good time to do that – and today’s as good a day as any. Let’s face it, it’s too hot to do anything else!

So these are all simple questions – but incredibly important.

Please give them some thought and don’t be surprised if the answers start to produce some quite deep changes.

Here's to great success in your life!

Best wishes,

Kavit
