Sunday 16th January 2005 Hi [NAME], Welcome to this special Random Acts of Kindness issue! How many people decided to take up a New Year's resolution this year? How are you coping? Are you finding it real easy, or a little struggle? Well done on your achievement so far, and all the best for the coming weeks! As you may have noticed, there's a great difference in this newsletter compared to the previous newsletters you've received. Recently, we've invested in some new newsletter software to give it a more "free" and easy-to-navigate look! I hope you enjoy it, and I'd love to hear your feedback. Have you heard of Danny Wallace? He wrote a book called 'random acts of kindness' a while back and lists 365 ways of making random acts. His motto is "undertake a random act of kindness for a stranger!" Now this newsletter goes out to over 1200 people so imagine the number of acts! There's a very short article below about kindness, but more importantly, a few simple and extraordinary ways you could make a difference without doing a lot. I'd love to hear some of the stories that you've had in your life where you've either done a random act of kindess or witnessed one. Send them through to info@kavitharia.com and we'll post the best ones up in the next newsletter! In this 21st century, you seem to get critisced if you do something wrong. Why is that? Why do people put a lot of pressure on you to perform to your best, and even if you make one slip up they make you feel so bad. If you learn how to Tune In Your Brain, you'll have learnt the secrets of controlling your feelings, being confident, motivated and doing whatever you want because all you've got to do is just "tune your brain" to the right frequency. Over the past few months, I have received so many emails from various people about problems they face or when they are just stuck and they want help or advice. Many of them take up complimentary coaching sessions and coaching programmes through InnerRhythm Coaching. To open this up to more people, I created a Ask Coach Coaching panel on the website where you can email any problem you have and I'll give you detailed answers each week and you can see them on the website! This newsletter's quite special and action-packed like all the others, but there's something very special here! Find out how music helps you succeed at interviews and how to build your child's confidence below...

Here's one of my favourite random acts: I was walking home one afternoon from a lovely day out and an elderly lady was taking some of her shopping out of the car booth. I went over and helped her and the smile on her face said it all! I plucked a flower from the plant nearby and gave it to her! She invited me in for milk and biscuits but I had to decline (I was now running late!). Thank you Aunt Jo! I now pop in every week on the way home to say hello and it's such an amazing sight and feeling! I want you to just visualise yourself getting the shopping out of the car booth. You've got a lot, it's a little heavy and no help at all. You see a young boy striding down the road and he comes up to you. His warmth overwhelms you and the next thing you know is that he's helping you take your shopping out of the car! How does it make you feel? Bring those feelings forward? What a pleasant feeling it is to have somebody be so kind and helpful? Relive those moments. What can you hear? What can you smell? What do you feel? Just imagine if you did something like that for someone else? They would feel amazing, or even more, you'd feel great! Next time you're having fun, why not bring in a lovely RANDOM act of kindness. It doesn't have to be big. It doesn't have to be small. Here are ten of my favourite ideas...

| Tune In Your Brain |

I learnt the quick and most efficient way to do this many years ago when I was sitting in my school social studies lesson... One day, I was in the classroom, full of other students and the school principal came to give us a talk. Of course, like most school talks, it was really boring then and we couldn't do anything about it as he was the top man, in charge of it all! Something he said really interested me that day (for the first time in his talks) and I never forgot what he said. He spoke about the untapped human potential and this was quite interesting and extraordinary to me. He said, "we are all capable of so much more than we realize." Even though you are capable of handling the situations you find yourself in. If you could approach each day with an attitude of demanding more from yourself than anyone else ever would - you would be shocked at what you can achieve. You would be using more of your potential and making great progress. Silly tasks you have to perform then become stepping stones to something far grander and problems become opportunities for you to grow and impress not only yourself but everyone else around you. The challenge for you right now comes down to getting started. Once your engine is running the momentum will keep you going but what do you do if you feel stuck and unable to begin? You need to learn how to run your brain! All of that vast potential is not being used because you do not know how to activate it. When you discover how easy it is to become motivated you will be amazed that something that once seemed so complicated can actually be so simple. Here's what you can do everytime and anytime you need a little motivation boost... Think of something you are highly motivated to do and choose something else you want to get done which you are not motivated to do. Now compare how you represent these two experiences in your mind in terms of pictures, sounds and feelings. Take the task you need to get done and change the way you think about it by giving the picture, sound and feeling the same qualities as the motivated experience. i.e. picture size and color, sound volume and pitch, intensity of feelings. This is difficult to do the first time you try it but it gets easier with practice. When you learn more about peak performance you will be able to do this in a matter of minutes. Go from feeling pathetic to feeling energized and highly motivated. This time spent learning how to run your brain will transform the quality of your life even more quickly than you can imagine. Let's work through this with your complimentary coaching session where I'll be more than happy to share some more easier, and efficient strategies for being confident and motivated to do anything! |
| Music @ Interviews |
|
Firstly, music can help you during the preparation stages. While it doesn't appear to work for everyone, some studies suggest that having classical music playing softly in the background as you study can boost your recall. Try it as you're reading over your prepared answers for probable interview questions. Secondly, music can help you relax, put you in an positive mood, and help dispel nervousness. Think of a song you really enjoy, one that makes you feel great, and listen to it as you're travelling to your interview. A possible song you might consider is "All Star" by Smash Mouth. It's got a great, upbeat tempo, and some of the lyrics could be interpreted as advice for getting ahead at a job interview: "You'll never know if you don't go, you'll never shine if you don't glow... Hey now, you're an All Star, get your game on, go play; Hey now, you're a Rock Star, get the show on, get paid.... All that glitters is gold, Only shooting stars break the mold." Crank that up, listen to those words, and say to yourself, "I AM a shooting star, I'm going to SHINE, break the mold, and GET PAID!" This may all sound juvenile, but ask any music expert what I'm sharing and they'll tell you it's true! I guarantee you'll be in a confident, upbeat mood as you arrive for your interview, and that will give you a MAJOR edge over the competiton! |
