Your Personal Concentration Strategy

May 2005 - By Kavit M Haria

I was over at Saaj, my little cousins house on Sunday and we we're playing on his little chalkboard drawing cars, flowers, houses, trees, people and he even tried drawing me! It brought back memories of the old days when I used to have a chalkboard and have fun drawing on it back in Nigeria with Mum.

Something else also clicked then with me. I remembered how as kids we just used to do things without concentrating and focusing on what we do, and we know that they may have not turned out as we had wanted them to. This is how we kept learning, but what I learnt when I was learning the Tabla, and mastering my other percussion is that concentration is essential.

This was also true when it was my turn to draw on the chalkboard on Sunday with Saaj and it took me time to figure out what I would draw even though he told me to draw a car. I had to think how I'd place it, where the trees would go, what the mud would look like, whether it would be raining or sunny, etc. All this took concentration, and although this a playful scene from my life, it shows how important concentration is in our lives.

Concentration is the utmost important tool in order to make the greatest success of anything you desire. You need to be able to concentrate your entire focus onto the idea you are developing in order to make it a full success, because the Universal Law of Attraction states that whatever you focus your thoughts upon, the universe will respond back, whether wanted or unwanted. A successful person is able to fully concentrate on what does work for him and shut out any de-motivating or destructive thoughts.

Most people find it difficult to hold on to a thought for a long time, and this is natural as you seem to want to move. Hold on to a thought for long and you’ll move closer to what you desire, and the way to do this is to do daily, consistent practice. If you will just practice a few concentration exercises each day you will find you will soon develop this wonderful power.

Each and every one of us are human creatures, but like all, we need to be trained and developed to be useful and successful. If a person is trained to do something, and awakened from their state, they can achieve anything that they want, but the person who lacks the focus and concentration, is the one who will be at loss. All your real advancement must come from your individual effort.

Take this example... To be a successful athlete, you must have both fitness and concentration. If you are fully fit when running a marathon, but are not fully concentrating at the task at hand, you are not taking up every possibility to make an art of your work and life. We accomplish more by concentration than by fitness and so the person who is apparently best suited for a place does not always fill it best.

To create your own general concentration strategy, decide when you need to concentrate, how you will focus your attention, identify and learn how to deal with distractions and then practice your skills!

Working with a personal coach is the best thing to do in order to help you find the best strategies for yourself to become more confident, and then take small consistent steps to practice it each day.
